Freedom

There is brown everywhere,

A brown tree,

A brown plop of mud.

There is wet splish splash water.

It is a dead end.

It is dry, dead,

Waiting.

Spring of nothingness.

Bring it all!

The green is rushing,

Bolting,

Wanting freedom.

Just wait.

Wait.

Wait for a new hope,

A new light will come if you wait.

Enjoy the things around you,

For they soon will be gone.

The Adventures of Speedy and Gonzales

One day Speedy the Mealworm said, “Do you want to go on an adventure? Do you, Gonzales? Do you, please, please, please, please?”

“Okay,” said Gonzales. “On one condition, that we go worm racing!”

Speedy thought, “I really want to go on that adventure, but I do not at all like worm racing.”

Then Speedy said, “How about if we have a worm racing adventure?”

“Okay,” said Gonzales. “That will be fine! We should start packing. We have to go to Lola Island today.”

They packed sandwiches, fruit, and a gallon of milk plus two tents.

And off the two mealworm friends went.

Chickens

I am going to show a chicken! It is very fun. There are many different types of chickens. An example is a Polish Topknot. It has a funny name.

Next year I am going to a Chicken 4-H. 4-H stands for head, heart, hands, and health. When I start showing my chicken, I will post a picture of me. Come back to my blog again! Until then, toodaloo!

Pup

I am a young and growing champion.

A tiny flash.

I am ready to rebuke the cold.

Bring on the wind!

Nothing scares me.

Nothing.

The northern lights are shining down on me,

Jeweled with stars.

My friend is the rabbit.

His fun-loving hop calling me,

“Follow me! Follow me!

For I will show you the trail you were born to run on!”

The Iditarod Trail!

I want to go on that trail.

I do, I do!

But I have to wait,

Wait ‘til it’s my turn

To run to be a champion.

I am the son of the champion.

I am the dog sled pup.

Weaving

IMG_1839

The trade I am interested in is weaving. The weaver could be a man or a woman. The waver made blankets, rugs, and much more. If someone came to a weaver’s shop, you would see a four post box and things the weaver made. Also, you would see lots of colored yarn. The waver would weave during the day. Yarn would be the main tool other than the four post box. The yarn would be wound on the four post box. The waver would also spin yarn and thread. If the waver didn’t spin their own, they would travel and buy it. The rugs would be thick and beautiful. Blankets would be thick and beautiful too. The townspeople used the rug for a way to keep their floors clean, and blankets to keep warm.

A Twist on the Tempest

image-9

I studied Shakespeare for my topic in Genius Hour.  I used The Tempest by Shakespeare as a template for this play.  And it’s by me.

N= Narrator

D=Dynamite

S= Sparkler

R= Rip

V= Vip

M= Mismatch

N= One day a lonnnnnnng time ago, there were three friends living on Firework Island. Their names were Dynamite, Sparkler, and Mismatch. Mismatch was named Mismatch because he has one blue eye and one brown eye.

D= I think a storm is coming

S= Me too.

M= Me three, let’s go to our house.

D, S, M= Yes

N= No one thought the storm would wash up what it did. There was a duo of men who wanted to rule the whole world. Their names were Vip (very important person) and Rip (really important person). They wanted to rule Firework Island so they sailed there. When Rip and Vip got there everything changed.

R= Let’s make Dynamite, Sparkler, and Mismatch our slaves.

V= Yeah. And we’ll make Mismatch work the hardest since he has different colored eyes.

R= of course

N= Rip and Vip were being mean to M, S, and D, so M and S, and D did this.

S= we need to teach Rip and Vip a lesson.

M= I agree

D= I have a plan!

M & S= What?!

D= you know how they said tomorrow they’re going for a boat ride?

M & S= Umhmm…

D= We can put holes in their boat and then we’ll save them and that should make them more humble.

M & S= Yeah! Only one problem, how are we going to make the holes?

M= I have a drill.

D & S= Awesome!

N= That night they put their plan into action. The next morning…

V= I feel like we are sinking.

R= Oh don’t be silly this is the BEST boat in the world.

R & V= I’m getting wet!

D, S, M= We’ll save you!

N= Dynamite, Sparkler, and Mismatch brought Rip and Vip back to the island. Rip and Vip said sorry and they and Dynamite, Sparkler, and Mismatch lived happily ever after.

My Ice Cube Keeper Engineering Challenge

Ice Cube Keeper Engineering Challenge

Ask: Will a can keep an ice cube from melting?

Next, we imagined what our ice cube keeper would look like, planned, and created it. My keeper is a tin can lined with plastic packing material. I made it loose inside the can. There was a plastic bag over the top and a rubber band to hold the plastic bag so no air would get in.

I predict that my ice cube will stay frozen for five hours.

My table:

Time: Measurement: Observations:
10:02 3.5 cm It’s cold and big.
10:45 3.5 cm It stayed the same.
12:01 3 cm It shrunk.
1:04 3 cm It stayed the same again.
2:30 0 cm dead

I might try this to keep my ice cube from melting as soon as it did. I would like to try plastic materials and not metal because we learned that metal is a conductor and plastic is an insulator. I would try adding more insulation to the whole plan.

My reflections: My can did not work well. My top worked well though because it kept the air out. Other double lids people in the class tried for their question worked better, so I might try a double lid next time. It is hard to keep an ice cube cold for a day! If I could change something on my keeper, I would use a double lid, use plastic, and use better insulators.

The History of Woodstock

IMG_1465 IMG_1466

The name of my town is Woodstock.  The town was named this because there was a lot of trees that make wood.  my town began in 1761.  Here are some things I know about those early years. in my town.  Some buildings were moved!  Now my town is 254 years old.

IMG_1467 IMG_1468

My family came to this town in 2009.  My family has lived in this town for seven years.  I have seen these changes in my town while I have lived here.  A jewelry store was added.  Here are ways my town might change in the next twenty years.  They may add an indoor or outdoor swimming pool.

IMG_1469 IMG_1470

One day in the town of Woodstock, three houses were moved.  First, people got a big old-fashioned truck.  Next, they moved the house onto a trailer that the big truck was pulling.  Then the house was towed to where it was supposed to be!  And that’s the cool story of my town.
